This team is responsible for designing the hand actuation system, the overall arm structure and the socket. This design must allow different types of grasping on every day objects, but also be robust enough to withstand in the event of a fall.
The socket is the part of the prosthesis that comes into contact with the skin. It is a key component because it acts as the interface between the human and the prosthesis. It serves to hold the prosthesis in place, collect information for control purposes (i.e. via EMG electrodes) and provide information to the patient (i.e. haptic feedback). The socket must also be comfortable to wear, not irritate the skin, washable, etc.
